Perchance is a convenient, free AI image generator that works directly in your browser. It doesn’t require installing Stable Diffusion on your computer and makes it easy to experiment with prompts and generate images.
However, when generating lots of images, one inconvenience quickly becomes apparent: you don’t just want to save the images you like — you also want to preserve the exact parameters used to generate them.
This is especially useful if you’re working with Stable Diffusion WebUI AUTOMATIC1111 and want to load prompts directly from your saved images later.
To solve this problem, I developed a small browser extension called Perchance Image Saver, available for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
Features
The main idea is simple: Alt + Left Click on an image to save it to your computer along with its generation metadata.
Key features include:
- Quickly save images using Alt + Left Click.
- Automatically extract positive and negative prompts.
- Preserve the seed, CFG scale, and image resolution when available.
- Store generation parameters in EXIF
UserCommentusing a format compatible with AUTOMATIC1111. - Preserve additional Perchance generation information.
- Support images generated inside iframes.
- Wait for image generation to finish if the image is not ready yet.
- Save original JPEG images without recompression or quality loss.
- Work with both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
The extension requires no registration, external services, or uploading your images to the developer.
How It Works
Open Perchance Image Generator Professional, enter your prompt, and generate some images.
When you find an image you like, simply hold Alt and left-click on it.
The extension automatically retrieves the image, extracts its generation parameters, embeds the metadata into the EXIF information, and saves the JPEG to your browser’s download folder.
The filename looks like this:
perchance-image-2026-11-03T09-25-13.jpg
The JPEG image is not recompressed. Only its metadata is modified, so the original image quality is preserved.
AUTOMATIC1111 Compatibility
This was the main reason I created the extension.
Stable Diffusion WebUI AUTOMATIC1111 includes a PNG Info tab that can extract generation parameters from image files.
Despite its name, PNG Info supports not only PNG files but also JPEG images containing properly formatted EXIF metadata.
Perchance Image Saver stores the generation parameters in the EXIF UserComment tag using a format that AUTOMATIC1111 can recognize.
Example metadata:
A beautiful futuristic city at sunset,
cinematic lighting, detailed architecture
Negative prompt: blurry, low quality, distorted
CFG scale: 7, Seed: 123456789, Size: 512x768,
Perchance generator: Image Generator Professional
To use a saved image in AUTOMATIC1111:
- Open AUTOMATIC1111 Stable Diffusion WebUI.
- Navigate to the PNG Info tab.
- Drag and drop your saved JPEG into the upload area.
- Check the extracted generation parameters.
- Click Send to txt2img to transfer the available parameters to the generation interface.
Keep in mind that Perchance and your local Stable Diffusion installation may use different models, samplers, and settings. Therefore, you should not expect to reproduce the exact same image.
The goal is to preserve successful prompts and their associated parameters so you can reuse and refine them in future experiments.
Installing the Extension
Mozilla Firefox
A Mozilla-signed version of the extension is available for Firefox.
Download Perchance Image Saver for Firefox
Installation:
- Download the
.xpifile. - Open Firefox.
- Navigate to
about:addons. - Click the gear icon and select Install Add-on From File.
- Select the downloaded XPI file and confirm the installation.
The signed extension is installed permanently and continues to work after restarting Firefox.
Google Chrome
For Chrome, the extension is available as an unpacked developer-mode installation.
Download Perchance Image Saver for Chrome
Installation:
- Download and extract the ZIP archive.
- Open
chrome://extensions. - Enable Developer mode.
- Click Load unpacked.
- Select the folder containing the extension files.
After installation, refresh your Perchance tab.
Unlike temporary extensions loaded through Firefox’s debugging tools, extensions installed this way in Chrome remain available after restarting the browser.
Technical Implementation
Perchance generates images inside individual iframes, and these images do not necessarily appear in the DOM at the same time.
This presents several challenges for a browser extension. When you click an image, it may still be generating, its data may not be fully available, or some generation settings may have changed after pressing Generate again.
To handle these situations, the extension works with the parameters associated with each individual image and takes its loading state into account.
Generation metadata is stored in the EXIF UserComment field. Additional Perchance information can also be preserved in XMP metadata.
There are also differences between browsers. For example, Chrome allows images to be downloaded using data: URLs, while Firefox restricts the use of these URLs in its downloads API. For this reason, the Firefox version uses Blob objects and object URLs instead.
Apart from these browser-specific differences, both versions share the same core image-processing and metadata-handling logic.
Privacy
The extension operates locally in your browser and does not send images, prompts, or generation history to the developer’s servers.
It interacts with Perchance to retrieve images that have already been generated, then saves them directly to your computer.
No additional accounts, API keys, or paid services are required.
Conclusion
Perchance Image Saver is a small utility that makes working with Perchance more convenient, especially if you regularly experiment with AI image generation.
Instead of saving an ordinary image file, you get a JPEG that contains both the image itself and useful information about how it was created.
And thanks to the simple Alt + Left Click shortcut, saving your favorite results takes just a moment.
